LEGO CLUB
Tuesdays, September 10, 17, 24; Oct 18
4:00-5:30pm
Design, build, & share at this South Whatcom Library drop-in program for ages 4 and up. We provide the
LEGO® bricks; you bring the creativity. What will you create?

South Whatcom Play Date
Wednesday, September 11
10:30am – 11:00am
Families with young children play and create at this informal social time. Toys and materials will be
provided. Meets every Wednesday in August at the South Whatcom Library.

South Whatcom Storytime
Wednesdays, September 18, 25, Oct 2, 9
10:30am – 11:00am

For ages 2-6, 30 minutes. An open program at the South Whatcom Library that includes stories, rhymes,
and songs with opportunities for movement and interactive participation. 

Mounted Plant Workshop In-Person
Wednesday, September 18 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Join us at South Whatcom Library to learn about tropical epiphytic plants and explore new ways to
cultivate an indoor jungle! Participants will create their own hanging mounted plant display, discuss
which plants are best suited for growing vertically, and chat about mounted plant care. All materials
provided.
Leeann Fox founded Arrows Aim Greenhouse & Supply Co., a WSDA inspected & certified tropical
houseplant nursery & ceramics studio in Skagit County, WA. We offer a curated menu of hand-raised
houseplants, handmade ceramic plant-care tools, & friendly, accessible plant-care expertise for the
modern plant parent. Each of our planters & grow lights are thoughtfully hand-built & fired in-house
from mid-range stoneware & created with a passion for design that empowers hobby growers with a
fresh aesthetic.

Tweens Learn to Knit In-Person
Thursdays, September 19,26; Oct 3, 10
4:30pm – 6:00pm
Join us at the South Whatcom Library for a 4-part knitting course taught by Sudden Valley resident Sue
Hill. Each session will build upon the last as attendees learn the fundamentals and work on
their projects. Registration is limited and required individually for each of the 4 classes. This program is
for young people ages 9-14. Bring your eagerness for creative expression and all else will be provided!

South Whatcom Social Hour
Thursday, September 19 from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Come to the South Whatcom Library on the 3rd Thursday of each month to connect with others in the
community.  Join us for some informal conversations and enjoy some coffee or tea. Would you like to chat and do an activity at the same time? We will have a few games out for use during this drop-in social time.

From Bombay to Bellingham In-Person
Saturday, September 21 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Join us at South Whatcom Library. Longtime Bellingham resident and Squalicum High School History teacher Gabe Mayers was born into the Bene Israel Jewish community in Bombay, India. He will discuss various theories regarding how the Bene Israel Jews arrived in India, talk about their relationship with
the Baghdadi Jews, and share personal memories from his childhood in Bombay. Finally, he will recall his family’s experiences as they moved from India and became new immigrants in Israel. His talk will include a PowerPoint presentation and there will be time for questions afterwards.
This event will be held in Multi-purpose Room A on the ground floor of the Recreation Center, Gate 2.

Daffy Day
Saturday, October 5 from 11:00am – 2:00pm
Join us at the South Whatcom Library for Daffy Day! Attendees will receive free daffodil bulbs to bring home and plant, enjoy hot cider and snacks, and have fun with flower themed youth activities. This event is hosted by the Friends of the South Whatcom Library in partnership with the Sudden Valley Garden Club. 

How to be an LGBTQIA+ Ally In-Person
Saturday, October 12 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm
PFLAG moms who have raised queer children share how you can be an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community.
Join us at South Whatcom Library. In this safe environment, ask the questions you might be afraid to ask. PFLAG Whatcom is one of 400 chapters in the U.S. The national non-profit organization provides advocacy, education and support to the LGBTQIA+ community and their families, friends and allies.

We need teens with a community spirit to help out at South Whatcom Library with our Booktober Party for kids. You’ll help pass out supplies and assist kids in all the making and the doing. Teens in grades 6-12 can register below.
