Accepting candidate applications for FoSWL Board of Directors

The mission of Friends of the South Whatcom Library is to enhance the South Whatcom Library services through support and advocacy, raising awareness of the library’s value in our community.

Help us make decisions and plan monthly educational and fun-filled activities for adults and kids. For example, Summer Reading Kickoff  in June, WCLS Summer Concert  Series, Ice Cream Social in August, free bulbs at Daffy Day in October, Patron Appreciation Sweet Potluck in December.  Want to assist in planning and/or events? We love our library and want to provide the support so that ALL community members can enjoy library services and events for ages to come. LEGO CLUB

Tuesdays, April 9, 16, 23, 30; May 7

4:00-5:30pm

Design, build, & share at this South Whatcom Library drop-in program for ages 4 and up. We provide the LEGO® bricks; you bring the creativity. What will you create?

SOUTH WHATCOM STORYTIME

Wednesdays, April 10, 17, 24; May 1

10:30-11:00am

For ages 2-6, 30 minutes. An open program that includes stories, rhymes, and songs with opportunities for movement and interactive participation. 

Sound Bath Journey (Adults In-Person)

Saturday, April 13 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm

In the Sudden Valley Dance Barn (8 Barn View Ct, Sudden Valley, WA 98229). 

Immerse yourself in a relaxing and restorative sound bath experience with certified Sound Healer and Reiki Master, Sandie Young. Chase the dark winter away and allow your stress to fade while your body is bathed in tones of various instruments including drums, rattles and crystal singing bowls. Bring water, a yoga mat or blanket, and anything else you need to make yourself comfortable.

South Whatcom Whole Round Earth

Saturday, April 20 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm

Kids, celebrate Earth Day at the South Whatcom Library as we work on a collaborative two-dimensional art project. Each person will decorate one piece of the planet, and we’ll assemble them to reveal an earth that belongs to everyone!

Valley Book Club In-Person (Adults)

Join us at the South Whatcom Library on the first Friday of each month to share your current read and hear about great new titles from others. This is a “choose your own” style book club where members will introduce others to their next favorite! Registration is required as space is limited. Looking for inspiration? Each month you can participate in our optional reading challenge; find and read a title related to the theme.  May’s reading challenge: our theme this month is “hobbies”.

Cedar Weaving (Adults In-Person)

Saturday, May 4 from 11:00am – 1:00pm

Learn about cedar weaving from Lummi artists Lee Plaster and Toshi Simmonds at the South Whatcom Library. In this class, you will weave a headband. Participants should wear clothing they are comfortable getting stained. Space is limited; register online: https://wcls.libcal.com/event/11505831

Dog Day Afternoons

Tuesday, May 7 and 14

4:00pm – 6:00pm

Cuddle up with a good book at South Whatcom Library and read to a canine friend from the Whatcom Humane Society. Choose your half-hour between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. and read once a week for two weeks. Must be able to read with minimal help.   All dogs have completed basic obedience and/or participated in WHS education programs.  Space is limited; registration is required. Registration begins 4/9/24. To register, call the South Whatcom Library at (360) 305-3632.

South Whatcom A Salmon’s Journey

Saturday, May 18 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm

Celebrate the return of the Chinook salmon to the Nooksack River at South Whatcom Library as we read a Tlingit version of the story Shanyaak’utlaax̲/Salmon Boy illustrated by 2021 Caldecott winner and Tlingit/Haida artist Michaela Goade. After the story, we will color and cut out the 5 local species of salmon to make a collage or mobile. We look forward to learning and creating with you! All materials provided. For grades K–5.

Summer Reading Kickoff

Wednesday, June 26 from 10:00am – 6:00pm

Join us all week long at the South Whatcom Library as we celebrate the beginning of our Summer Reading program. Collect your Summer Reading card, learn about summer programs, and connect with other readers. All youth under 18 will receive a free book that they can pick out and keep forever.

  1. Shop the Book Sale cart inside the South Whatcom Library

A colored dot system is used to price the books $1 and up. Other books start at 25 cents, price listed on those books.  Drop the amount into the Honor Box at the Book Sale cart. The Friends of the South Whatcom Libraryuse book sale proceeds for funding South Whatcom Library monthly children’s craft kits. Thank you for participating!
