Accepting candidate applications for FoSWL Board of Directors

The mission of Friends of the South Whatcom Library is to enhance the South Whatcom Library services through support and advocacy, raising awareness of the library’s value in our community. Help us make decisions and plan monthly educational and fun-filled activities for adults and kids. For example, Summer Reading Kickoff in June, WCLS Summer Concert Series, Ice Cream Social in August, free bulbs at Daffy Day in October, Patron Appreciation Sweet Potluck in December. LEGO CLUB

Tuesdays, March 12, 19, 26; April 2

4:00-5:30pm

Design, build, & share at this South Whatcom Library drop-in program for ages 4 and up. We provide the LEGO® bricks; you bring the creativity. What will you create?

SOUTH WHATCOM STORYTIME

Wednesdays, March 13, 20, 27; April 3

10:30-11:00am

For ages 2-6, 30 minutes. An open program that includes stories, rhymes, and songs with opportunities for movement and interactive participation.

Valley Book Club In-Person (Adults)

Join us at the South Whatcom Library on the first Friday of each month to share your current read and hear about great new titles from others. This is a choose your own style book club where members will introduce others to their next favorite! Registration is required as space is limited.

Traditional Preservation Methods with Celt Schira (Adults In-Person)

Wednesday, March 20, from 6:00pm – 7:30pm

Preserve foods with vinegar, drying, preserving in oil and alcohol, cold storage and lactic fermentation. Make your own teas, condiments, snacks and traditional ingredients from fresh, local food. Preserve the excess from your garden. Make favorites such as hot sauce, sauerkraut, dried fruits and posole. South Whatcom LOL 101 – Jokes for Kids

Saturday, March 23 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm

Why don’t eggs tell jokes? They’d crack each other up! Come out to the South Whatcom Library to learn about how to write hilarious jokes, and how to tell them with side-splitting style. We’ll dig into the elements of what makes a good joke, figure out how to milk them for big laughs, and finish with a comedy club open mic. Come to practice or just guffaw.

Sound Bath Journey (Adults In-Person)

Saturday, April 13 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm

In the Sudden Valley Dance Barn (8 Barn View Ct, Sudden Valley, WA 98229). 

Immerse yourself in a relaxing and restorative sound bath experience with certified Sound Healer and Reiki Master, Sandie Young. Chase the dark winter away and allow your stress to fade while your body is bathed in tones of various instruments including drums, rattles and crystal singing bowls. Bring water, a yoga mat or blanket, and anything else you need to make yourself comfortable.

South Whatcom Whole Round Earth

Saturday, April 20 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm

Kids, celebrate Earth Day at the South Whatcom Library as we work on a collaborative two-dimensional art project. Each person will decorate one piece of the planet, and we’ll assemble them to reveal an earth that belongs to everyone!

What if Whatcom County Library System doesn’t own a book, and you WANT to read it?

A number of our Patrons read beyond our regular collection. Did you know that even if Whatcom County Library System doesn’t own a book that you would like, we can still get it for you? Head to WCLS.org and click on the “Get Help” tab to drop down to our Can’t Find It form and submit a request for the item you are looking for (or ask library staff to place the request for you). This service is free of charge and we love to promote it.
