Village Books and Paper Dreams

FoSWL Member Shopping Day

Village Books and Paper Dreams, in partnership with Friends of the South Whatcom Library (FoSWL) are pleased to provide FoSWL members in good standing (membership dues paid for 2023/2024) a day of shopping with discount, which also helps earn store-credit for South Whatcom Library.

Who: FoSWL members in good standing

What: For all transactions and accompanied by a completed form (available upon request at frndsofswlibrary@gmail.com) , the FoSWL member receives 10% off their Village Books and Paper Dreams purchase, and FoSWL also receives 10% of the pre-tax value of purchases made.

When: All day Wednesday, February 14, 2024

Where: Village Books and Paper Dreams, Fairhaven

Why: To thank you for being a FoSWL member in good standing, and also to raise funds for library projects that the Whatcom County Library System budget doesn’t cover.

How: The FoSWL member completes a discount form (available upon request at frndsofswlibrary@gmail.com) and turns it in to the Village Books and Paper Dreams Associate at time of purchase on February 14, 2024.

Note: This program is valid only for FoSWL members in good standing (membership dues paid for 2023/2024). Credit is applicable for the following purchases: gift cards, books, toys, games, and other Village Books and Paper Dreams merchandise. Event tickets are not applicable. Purchases DO apply to customers’ Reader Rewards accounts. No additional discounts can be applied, including teacher discounts.

SOUTH WHATCOM LIBRARY EVENTS

LEGO CLUB

Tuesdays, Feb 13, 20, 27; March 5, 12

4:00-5:30pm

Design, build, & share at this South Whatcom Library drop-in program for ages 4 and up. We provide the LEGO® bricks; you bring the creativity. What will you create?

SOUTH WHATCOM STORYTIME

Wednesdays, Feb 14, 21, 28; March 6, 13

10:30-11:00am

For ages 2-6, 30 minutes. An open program that includes stories, rhymes, and songs with opportunities for movement and interactive participation. 

Energy Upgrades for Your Home (In-Person Adults)

Wednesday, Feb 28 from 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Learn about energy efficiency, renewable energy and other improvements for your home with Puget Sound Energy Outreach Manager, Hunter Hassig. Class is geared towards homeowners (although renters are welcome) looking to find ways to reduce their energy consumption through energy efficient upgrades. We will also cover other energy related home projects like producing your own power, offsetting your electric usage with renewable energy or making the switch to an electric vehicle. Energy saving tips will be shared along with programs, services and incentives available to help you on your next energy related home improvement project!

Valley Book Club In-Person (Adults)

Join us at the South Whatcom Library on the first Friday of each month to share your current read and hear about great new titles from others. This is a “choose your own” style book club where members will introduce others to their next favorite! Registration is required as space is limited. Register: https://wcls.libcal.com/event/10777117

Looking for inspiration? Each month you can participate in our optional reading challenge; find and read a title related to the theme.  March’s reading challenge: our theme this month is “roots”.

Traditional Preservation Methods with Celt Schira (Adults In-Person)

Wednesday, March 20, from 6:00pm – 7:30pm

Preserve foods with vinegar, drying, preserving in oil and alcohol, cold storage and lactic fermentation. Make your own teas, condiments, snacks and traditional ingredients from fresh, local food.
