Facing a technology challenge? Every Thursday in September, Evergreen Goodwil will be at South Whatcom Library offering technology instruction. Stop by for help with computer and mobile phone basics and begin to build confidence as a digital navigator.

YOUR VOICE, YOUR CHOICE – ADVANCE CARE PLANNING (adults)

This step-by-step workshop will walk participants through creating their own enhanced durable  power of attorney for healthcare (DPOA-HC) so they can designate their Healthcare Agent (trusted medical decision-maker), express their wishes for medical treatment, and get this vital document scanned into their health record and on file at the hospital. This document is so essential for guiding care if a person is unable to speak for themself. Our goal is to get this information to all community members over the age of 18 so they can make their plan.

SOUTH WHATCOM TEEN ART NIGHT (In-Person)

Do you love to paint, draw, or simply get creative? This exclusive program will allow you to create a masterpiece while socializing with other art-loving teens. Whether you want to paint a canvas, create an original character, or just doodle in your sketchbook, this night is for you. Registration is required. Limited seating. Grades 6-12. DYSLEXIA 101 (In-Person adults)

6:00-7:30pm

Whether you have a family member or child with reading challenges, you will learn something new about how our brains learn to read and why some of us struggle with it.

Dyslexia is a brain-based condition in 15-20% of the population that causes difficult with reading and the small components of language: sounds, letters, and syllables.Join us for what is sure to be an informative 90-minute presentation! Bring your curiosity and questions.

Kendra Wagner has taught children of all ages with challenges in reading and writing. She was a school reading specialist, an in-service provider in schools, and a specialist in private practice. Her specialization in dyslexia arose from working in juvenile detention and discovering how many had reading disabilities. She is a recent transplant to the area.

LEARN HOW TO PROTECT YOUR TREES (In-Person)

English Ivy kills 100% of the trees it climbs up on! Michael Feerer of Whatcom Million Trees Project will discuss this threat to our local trees and show you how to safely and effectively remove this non-native killer, whether in your yard, neighborhood, or at a local park. Q&A to follow.

HELP MAKE DAFFY DAY DELIGHTFUL !

The annual Daffy Day at South Whatcom Library is Saturday, October 21 between 11am and 3pm, when attendees will receive free daffodil bulbs to bring home and plant, enjoy hot cider and snacks, and have fun with flower themed youth activities.

During the week prior to October 21 event, your help is needed! If you have any garden book and magazine donations, please bring them to the South Whatcom Library. If you have an hour to spare on either Wednesday or Thursday, October 18/19 to help fill bags and attach planting instructions, please call Elizabeth Huthert 360-671-6364.

This event is hosted by the Friends of the South Whatcom Library and in partnership with the Sudden Valley Garden Club.
